Marisa Cashill, picture editor for the Yorkshire Post, enjoyed the boat trip – the first she has been on in Scarborough in all her years since she was a child, visiting the resort, which this year marks its 400th anniversary since the discovery of its spa waters.
Marisa said: “It was just a day trip to the seaside, a few quid to go on the pirate ship.
"Even though we have been coming to Scarborough every year since a kid I can't ever remember doing the boat trip.
"You do get spectacular views of the bay from there.
"We went last off around 4pm as the tide was coming in and I wonder if that was why the dolphins were out - catching the fish?
"We did the regular route on the ship then the captain asked if we all wanted to go and see some dolphins, which we did.
"He then took the boat past the entrance to the harbour and towards North Bay where there was a pod of dolphins, certainly over ten but hard to count.
"They came so close to the boat to put on a performance for us then went on their merry way.”
“It is all about timing, and the skill of the crew on the pirate ship.”
