Egton Show latest big event in Whitby area to be cancelled
Egton Show has been cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis.
An announcement on the show's Facebook page this morning reads: "It is with great sadness we announce that, after careful consideration, due to the pandemic we will postpone this year's Egton Horse and Agricultural Show until August 25, 2021.
"We look forward to seeing you all safe and well next year."
Egton Show secretary Daphne Jackson said: "It was a really hard decision, but the only decision anyone could make right now.
"We left it as late as we dare.

"It costs in excess of £60,000 to put the show on, now that's not a problem if you're going to have a good day."
Daphne said that trying to hold the show and encourage 8,000 people to observe social distancing was simply beyond the realms of possibility.
She said the committee plan for the show to return in 2021.
"We'll use the time to make improvements and do things that we've put off doing for a number of years," she said,
"Hopefully next year it will all be different and the outlook will be more positive."
This year's show would have taken place on August 26.
