Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park has officially changed its name to Filey Zoo, a move designed to better represent the attraction as it is today and to more clearly communicate to visitors the experience on offer.
When the attraction first opened in 2008, the name Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park was chosen to literally describe what visitors would find: an attraction in Filey featuring birds, gardens, and animals.
At that time, the park was on a much more modest scale, with a collection of about 30 species, made up of domestic animals and exotic birds, and as such was exempt from requiring a Zoo License.
Over the years, the park has evolved significantly, and, with ambitious plans for the future, it took an exciting step forward by applying for a zoo licence – successfully granted in 2017.
This milestone allowed the introduction a wider range of exotic species and transform what’s on offer for visitors. While the footprint of the site has stayed the same, the experience within it has grown beyond recognition.
Today, the collection is home to more than 75 species, from charismatic meerkats and lemurs to fascinating snakes and lizards.
A Filey Zoo spokesperson said: “After nine successful years’ operating as a licensed zoo, the rebrand to Filey Zoo marks a fitting and exciting next chapter.
“With the completion of key development projects and the continued introduction of exotic species, the new name now fully reflects the scale and quality of the experience on offer – celebrating how far the zoo has come while looking confidently toward the future.
“Visitors to Filey Zoo can expect the same welcoming atmosphere, friendly team and commitment to animal welfare that have been at the heart of the attraction since it opened – now under a name that truly reflects what’s inside.”
