Worried residents have been in touch with the Gazette to say they are concerned that any future development would ruin the "unique" golf course and "overrun our already overburdened infrastructure".
Although not a planning application, Scarborough Borough Council has issued a public notice for submission of site for housing allocation in the local plan, on a 32-acre stretch of land between Castle Road and the Sandsend Road in Whitby.

The group says: "As soon as development goes ahead, it will continue to spread along Sandsend Road and our beautiful green spaces will be lost forever.
"These homes will put a huge strain on our infrastructure and already congested roads during peak seasons."
There are a number of other developments proposed in the Local Plan including on land near Sleights road end roundabout.
