Filey Royal British Legion branch marks centenary year with unveiling and dedication of memorial bench

The Filey Royal British Legion Branch marked its centenary year with the unveiling and dedication of a new memorial bench and remembrance garden at Filey Railway Station.

The project, delivered in partnership with Northern Rail Ltd, has been created as a lasting tribute to the service and sacrifice of members of the Armed Forces, while also providing a place for quiet reflection within the heart of the community.

The event was attended by invited dignitaries including representatives from the North Yorkshire Lieutenancy, Filey Town Council, veterans’ organisations, community groups, and local supporters, as well as tepresentatives from Filey Sea Cadets and relatives of the Caribbean airmen stationed at RAF Hunmanby Moor, among others.

Paul Colling, Secretary of the Filey Royal British Legion Branch, said: “As we mark our centenary year, we wanted to create something lasting for both the community and for remembrance.

"We are extremely grateful to Northern and all of our supporters who have helped make this project possible.

"We hope the memorial garden will become a place of reflection and remembrance for many years to come.”
