Flixton Restaurant raises over £1,000 for the National Coastwatch Institution in Filey

Wolds Restaurant at Orchard Lodge has raised over £1000 for the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) Filey with its final fundraising event of 2025, a special Fish Tasting Menu that delighted guests while supporting a crucial local charity.

The sold-out event showcased Executive Chef Michael Burgoyne's expertise with sustainable seafood, featuring locally sourced ingredients from the Yorkshire coast.

The evening was made even more special by an anonymous donation of £85 from one of the guests, helping to push the total raised beyond the £1000 mark.

"We're thrilled with the response to our fundraising event," said Andrew Jenkins, co-owner of Orchard Lodge Wolds Restaurant. "The NCI Filey team does vital work keeping our coastline safe, and we wanted our final event of the year to give something back to this essential volunteer service."

NCI Filey is part of the National Coastwatch Institution, a volunteer organisation that maintains a visual watch along the UK's coasts.

Their trained watchkeepers serve as the "eyes and ears" along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility.

Working alongside HM Coastguard and emergency services, NCI helps protect and save lives at sea and along the coastline.

"This generous donation will make a real difference to our operations," said Paul Evans from NCI Filey.

"As a charity staffed entirely by volunteers, we rely on community support like this to maintain our equipment and continue our mission of keeping people safe along the Yorkshire coast."

The Fish Tasting Menu event is part of Wolds Restaurant's ongoing commitment to the local community and sustainable dining.

As the only restaurant in the Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington area to hold two AA Rosettes, Wolds has built a reputation for excellence while championing local producers and seasonal ingredients.

The funds raised will help support NCI Filey's work providing visual coastal surveillance, with watchkeepers monitoring sea conditions, weather changes, and vessel movements to help prevent incidents and assist with emergencies when they occur.
