Flood-Damaged Eastfield Medical Centre ensures patients continue to receive full care

A flood-damaged doctors’ surgery in Eastfield is continuing to ensure patients receive high-quality care, despite its main premises being temporarily closed for repairs.

Eastfield Medical Centre (EMC), which is managed by SSP Health, remains fully committed to supporting the local community as services transition smoothly to temporary locations.

Working closely with Labour Government MP Alison Hume, Practice Managers, and neighbouring surgeries, SSP Health has brought together a range of alternative clinical spaces so patient care can continue without disruption. This has been possible due to the close relationships the practice team have within the community.

Patients are still able to access appointments, medical advice, prescriptions, and routine care, with staff contacting anyone whose appointment is being held at an alternative site.

Patients are currently being seen across the following locations, including:

Lawrence House Medical Centre, 1 Belgrave Crescent, Scarborough

Saint Catherine’s Hospice, Throxenby Lane, Newby

Happy Futures, 19 Manor Garth, Eastfield – hosting flu clinics and vaccines

Jazz Court Retirement Community – providing workspace for administrative staff and Practice Management.

SSP Health are also currently in the process of finalising two clinical spaces which are expected to open in early December:

The Lounge at St Cecilia’s, 1 Eastway, Eastfield

Fashionable Fitness Centre (formerly Hogg, Thorburn & Partners dentist), Dunslow Road, Eastfield Business Park

Andy Scaife, CEO at SSP Health said: “The flooding came as a real blow, but our team responded immediately to make sure patient care did not stop for even a single day.

“We’ve relocated, reorganised, and kept things running, it’s quality patient care as usual for Eastfield Medical Centre.

“The community has been incredibly supportive, and we want everyone to know we’re here and ready to help as always.”

Work is now underway to restore the original building. SSP Health is working closely with the building’s owners and surveyors to assess the flood damage and plan the next steps to make the site safe and fully operational once again.

Mr Scaife added: “We’re proud of how quickly the practice team and partners pulled together. Our priority remains the same, providing high-quality, accessible care to our patients.

“We are working closely with NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) and the CQC, We’ll continue to share regular updates on the full reopening, but until then, the service continues as normal.”
