Former Miss Scarborough to host Scalby fundraiser for global children’s charities

Former Miss Scarborough and Yorkshire TV presenter Carolyn Hodgson is organising a fundraiser for charities close to her heart.

Carolyn, 56, was Miss Scarborough back in 1986 when she was a seventeen-year-old studying for her A-Levels at the Sixth Form College.

Since her days hosting YTV’s Calendar and presenting her Challenge Carolyn series, which saw her jump out of planes, abseil from the Humber Bridge and dive with sharks, Carolyn has gained a Master’s Degree in Social Work from York University.

Carolyn said: “Three years ago, both my children, Tudor, 22 and Sabyn, 21, went off to university, so I thought if you can’t beat them, join them!”

With Carolyn’s new qualification under her belt, she now spends as much time as she can volunteering abroad.

She said: “I have worked with children in Uganda who have lost both parents to AIDS, and are HIV positive, and in Bangladesh, it is hard to forget the street children, some as young as four, who carry razor blades in their mouths to deter sex traffickers.

“Thanks to amazing charities in both countries, the children have renewed hope for a more prosperous future, which includes a safe place to sleep, medication and the opportunity of an education, things we often take for granted in this country.”

Carolyn is organising a “Quality Clothes and Interior Sale” at Scalby Community Hall on Saturday, January 31 from 11am - 3pm.

Entry is £1, which includes refreshments.

All funds raised will support the charities Carolyn worked with in Uganda and Bangladesh.
