Friendship group Vale of York Oddfellows brings popular meet-ups to Scarborough

A new monthly meet-up is being launched in Scarborough by friendship group Vale of York Oddfellows following the success of similar community get-togethers in the region.

The free-to-attend Cuppa and Chat sessions will take place on the second Monday of each month at St Laurance’s Church Rooms in Scalby.

The regular meet-ups aim to give residents more opportunities to meet like-minded people and connect with others locally.

The first event will take place on Monday April 13 at 1pm, with complimentary refreshments available.

Stacey Taylor, Social Organiser for Vale of York Oddfellows in Scarborough, said: “Creating spaces for people to gather and build meaningful local connections is what we’re all about.

"We’re really pleased to be launching in Scarborough and can’t wait to get to know you all.

“Our regular meet-ups in Goole and York are always really well attended, with people from all sorts of backgrounds and with different interests coming along.

"So, this is an open invitation to anyone who feels they might appreciate getting to know some new people nearby.”

In addition to its coffee mornings, Vale of York Oddfellows arranges a variety of activities including lunches, walks, talks and day tips, and hopes to expand these to Scarborough in the future.

The Oddfellows also hosts around 60 online events every month which are free and open to all, including monthly member-hosted online open days where attendees can find out more about the Society.

Vale of York Oddfellows is one of 91 branches that make up the Oddfellows’ nationwide network, which is one of the oldest and largest of its kind in the UK.

As well as its events, Oddfellows members can access a variety of benefits including care and welfare support and a travel club.

There are also opportunities to volunteer and take part in fundraising initiatives.

“We know a thing or two about friendship here at the Oddfellows,” Stacey added.

“We’ve been supporting one another for over 200 years, so come along and find out about all the great things we have planned and how we can support you.”
