From Ozzy Osborne tributes to The Commitments - here are the highlights of summer season at Whitby's The Royal Hotel
From Faulty Towers meals to a night of classic Motown/soul hits from The Commitments movie, a fantastic season of live entertainment is on the cards at The Royal Hotel in Whitby.
A comedy night with Phil Walker – son of TV’s Catchphrase host Roy Walker – and Dawn Bailey will give audiences a chuckle or two on March 27 and that may whet your appetite for what’s in store.
This April, you can take your pick from speed quizzes, pop along for a pint as part of the Whitby pub crawl or enjoy a belly laugh at a comedy night.
Tuesday, April 7 will see pirate folk rock band Captain’s Beard get landlubbers and sailors alike in the mood for a party while rockers will love tributes to The Cure and Ozzy/Black Sabbath on Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25, while the venue also takes part in Whitby Goth Weekend events the following weekend.
One of the big attractions at The Royal is the Faulty Towers dining experience.
The event sees Basil, Sybil and waiter Manuel serve up chaos in the 70s-style three course meal, with jokes and references to some of the classic capers which caused such merriment at the dysfunctional hotel by the seaside.
The most recent sold out but the good news is there are further dates in June and September.
Stars of the award-winning 1991 film The Commitments will be stopping off at The Royal on Saturday, September 12 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the classic movie with a special screening of the film, Q+A session and musical performance.
Robert Arkins, who played band manager Jimmy Rabbitte, and his Commitments band will be playing all the hits from the film including Mustang Sally, Try A Little Tenderness, Midnight Hour and many more soul classics.
British rockers Toploader will be coming to the Royal on Saturday, October 24 as part of the UK tour.
It will give fans a chance to enjoy hits from their multi-BRIT nominated, triple platinum selling album, Onka’s Big Moka, as well as brand new material from their upcoming EP scheduled for release in early 2026
