Frustration as vandals strike again at Whitby Train Station

The General Manager of Esk Valley Community Rail Partnership, Lisa Williams, has expressed her frustration after Whitby Station was vandalised.

In the latest of a string of attacks on the Grade II listed Whitby Station, vandals have defaced the Community Rail Partnerships information point and littered the station with all the timetables and information leaflets, rendering them useless.

“Our volunteers spend many hours trying to keep the station tidy and passengers informed,” said Mrs Williams. “To see our hard work trashed and funds wasted in this way is frustrating.

“Why are Northern Trains and British Transport Police not monitoring the CCTV?

“Unfortunately, we can no longer afford to continue funding restoration.

“Sadly, we have now decided to remove the information point until security improves.

"We receive no support in maintaining and securing the station from Northern, Whitby Town Council or British Transport Police.

“Is it unreasonable to ask the town to take more pride in its station?”
