An illuminated Christmas house on Scarborough’s South Cliff is attracting visitors from across the area.

The house, on Princess Royal Terrace is owned by Jayne Bedford-Forbes and her husband Jim.

For the past 16 years, they have illuminated the house to raise money for local charities, and this year will raise funds for St Catherine’s Hospice and two cat protection charities.

Mrs Bedford-Forbes said: “Every year we have our home decorated from top to bottom with Christmas lights.

"Many people have asked us if we will still be having the lights due to the cost of energy this year.

"We did consider this, however, as the lights bring so much joy and hope to people far and wide, we decided to decorate up and even have Santa visiting on selected nights.”

The house will be illumintated from 4-8.30pm every evening between now and Christmas Eve with Santa visting from 4.30-6pm on Friday 16 and Tuesday 20 December and again from 6-8pm on Wednesday 14, Sunday 18 and Thursday 22 December.

A visit to Santa costs £1, or a visit with a small gift costs £2.

Mrs Bedford-Forbes said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Morrisons and Proudfoots for their support and donating some of the Santa gifts.”
