IN PICTURES: Eerie outfits and spectacular characters descend on Whitby for Goth Weekend 2026

Whitby has once again been transformed into a gothic wonderland as visitors from across Yorkshire and beyond flock to the town for the start of Goth Weekend 2026.

This year's festivities have an added twist, with the event coinciding with Halloween itself, providing the perfect backdrop for one of Whitby's best-loved annual celebrations.

Famed for its connections with Bram Stoker's Dracula, Whitby has long been a magnet for lovers of the macabre, and the streets have been filled with an extraordinary array of gothic fashion, elaborate costumes and wonderfully eccentric characters.

A packed programme of activities is taking place across the town, with visitors and residents alike enjoying the unique atmosphere that Goth Weekend brings to Whitby.

Photographer Gerard Binks was there to capture the colour, creativity and characters of the opening day.
