IN PICTURES: Hundreds of people turn out to enjoy Boxing Day events in Scarborough

A large crowd of people descended on South Bay on Friday, December 26, to enjoy the annual Boxing Day events.

The sun shone, and Christmas spirit was in the air as the Comic Band led a joyful parade through town to the beach.

A chaotic game of top-hatted football followed, as the annual Fishermen vs Firemen match drew cheers and laughter from the watching crowd.

The match has been played since 1893, when it began as a way to raise money for the children of five Scarborough fishermen who drowned at sea aboard the Evelyn and Maud.

The Crazy Raft Race, organised by Scarborough Sub Aqua Club, followed.

Teams, with rafts they had built themselves, headed to the harbour in a foggy haze of flour, as is tradition.

A desperate paddle around the course followed before the entrants threw themselves into the water for a final time from the harbour side.

A great day for a good cause, enjoyed by all.
