Filey Neighbourhood Policing Team has been supporting Hate Crime Awareness Week by working with young people and members of the community to raise awareness of hate crime and the impact it can have on victims.
Officers delivered awareness workshops at Filey Academy and Filey Junior School, speaking with students about what hate crime is, how it affects others, and the importance of respect, kindness and inclusion within our communities.
In addition, officers have attended a number of community drop-in sessions, providing information, answering questions and encouraging conversations about hate crime and how to report it.
A police spokesperson said: “Hate crime has no place in our communities. Everyone has the right to feel safe and be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or transgender identity.
“If you believe you have been a victim of hate crime, or have witnessed an incident, please report it. In an emergency always call 999, or report non-emergency incidents via 101 or online.
“Together, we can help make Filey a safer, stronger and more inclusive community for everyone.”
