IN PICTURES: Scarborough's Street Rocks celebrates first birthday with celebration

Indoor climbing centre Street Rocks celebrated its first birthday on Sunday 18 January 2026 with a community-powered party.

The climbing centre created by Coast and Vale Community Action (CaVCA), marked the occasion with a special celebration to thank the climbers, supporters, volunteers and donors who have helped Street Rocks’ community raise £10,000 to install a MoonBoard at the centre.

This was a major milestone made possible entirely through grassroots fundraising and collective effort.

Mel Bonney of CavCa said: “We were delighted to see so many of our friends and supporters coming to celebrate our first year with us.

"Street Rocks is a living example of what we believe communities can be – kind, supportive and inclusive but also tenacious and resilient.

"We came about through the power of community but this is only the beginning – if the past few years have taught us anything it’s that when this community climbs together there’s no limit to how high we can go.”

Photographer Richard Ponter captured the action.
