Inspiring projects making Scarborough a better place to go on display

Stories of Change will include beach sweeps, barbecues, village carnivals, art groups and bus stop get-togethers that have been organised with help from Coast and Vale Community Action’s Totally Socially scheme.

With money from the National Lottery Community Fund, the scheme has enabled and supported a host of groups and individuals to embark on a wide variety of projects to improve their towns and villages.

They include Scarborough’s Wayne Murray, who set up social history micro museum From Scardeburg To Scarborough.

Passionate about the people and families of the town’s past, he is currently raising funds to put up memorial plaques to the Scarborough civilians killed in the German bombardment in World War I.

Sound of Scarborough has been helped in its bid to encourage the development of the Scarborough music scene, while Sea/Film has received support to bring alternative film culture to Scarborough and get people together to experience cinema.

Totally Socially has also helped to set up a number of community fridges in the Borough of Scarborough.

As well as sharing food that would otherwise go to waste, the scheme brings people together.

Stories of Change takes place at The Street on Lower Clark Street on Tuesday, March 3 from 10am until 1pm.
