The 28-year-old Light Dragoons officer previously worked in Adelaide, Australia, as an outdoor education instructor before commissioning in 2017.

He said: “To be honest it was a real surprise when I heard that I had won the Amateur Video category, as I know that there is always a lot of great entries and the standard is very high.

“It’s very humbling to know that someone else appreciates what you’ve made and I’m very grateful.”

Captain Davies’ parents Timothy and Philippa have watched him go from strength to strength throughout his career and are proud of his recent win in the competition.

They are looking forward to seeing what he produces next year while fulfilling his role as a squadron second in command with The Light Dragoons based in Catterick Garrison.

Capt Davies added: “I think videography offers a lot of room for variation compared to photography – other aspects like speed, sound and editing can really change the way you can tell a story and put people in the moment of what’s happening. I enjoy using film to take a different perspective on something that people may have seen many times before.

“However, that can make it quite daunting.

“I certainly hope I’ll be entering next year’s competition; it will be fun to try and think of the next project.”
