May Day concert at Hawsker Methodist Church near Whitby
A May Day concert was held at Hawsker Methodist Church to raise funds for Retina UK.
The charity supports families with inherited sight loss and funds research.
The Hawsker Village Band specialises in dance tunes from the 18th and 19th Centuries, and included polkas, waltzes, jigs and marches in their two sets, which were enjoyed by an appreciative, toe-tapping audience.
They shared the evening with Sleights Early Music Recorder Consort, a group of eight, playing the full range of recorders from soprano to bass, with a selection of folk and classical music, performing immaculately and creating a beautiful sound.

Special guests at the evening were Heather Gaunt, who performed a flute solo, accompanied by Shirley Smith on the piano, and Anna Downes, who performed two Northumbrian clog dances, accompanied by singer Ailsa McKenzie, and Juliet Kaye on fiddle.
The concert, book stall and cake stall raised £276 for Retina UK.
