The impact of coronavirus on sporting events in 2020 has left them with no choice but to cancel the run, which was scheduled for October.

Joint Race Director Melanie Padgham said: “We are bitterly disappointed to have to do this but the uncertainty over all sports activities this year and the likelihood that lots of other runs and events will be pushed back until later this year have led us to decide to cancel October’s run.

“I know many people will be disappointed as the McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k has become a favourite in the running calendar. But to avoid any congestion of dates and any uncertainty, we feel the best thing is to cancel.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone back for a celebration 10k in 2021.”

Each year thousands take part in the 10K which follows a course from Scarborough Spa along the seafront and around the Marine Drive to the Sands complex, through Peasholm Gardens, past the Open Air Theatre to the Sea Life Centre and then back via the seafront, to the Spa.

It is followed by two family fun runs at 1.6k and 2.5k.
