Meet Peyton Rose, the first baby to be born in Scarborough Hospital this decade

Her mother Xanthe Waterman said: “We were the only ones in the labour ward, at 2am my waters went and I was in established labour a few hours later.”

Xanthe and her partner Luke Wilson, both from Scarborough, already share a 4-year-old son Barney who has taken to his new role as big brother with delight.

Xanthe said: “He absolutely loves it, he adores her.

“We took him to the first scan and as soon as he saw the baby on screen, ever since then he was really excited and would kiss the bump goodnight.

"Every morning he has to give her a cuddle and he wants her to come and say goodnight at bedtime."

Peyton arrived two weeks early, having originally been due on January 16, but Xanthe said adapting to life as a family of four was going well.

She added: "Barney came early so I was always on watch from around 37 weeks.

"It's been absolutely fine, much easier than the first time."

Having struggled in her pregnancy - Xanthe was involved in a head-on collision at 17 weeks which resulted in her being taken to Hull hospital with whiplash and bruising - she said finally bringing her new baby home felt amazing.

She said: “Labour was very simple, very quick, we didn’t mess around.

“It’s weird to say I enjoyed it but it went really well, and she’s completely worth the pain.”

Xanthe and Luke didn’t find out the gender of the baby ahead of birth and were completely surprised when a little girl arrived.

“All our family more or less are boys so we assumed this baby would be.

“There were lots of happy tears and we are so grateful to the midwives at the hospital.”
