In answer to a question posed on the Scarborough News Facebook page on Monday, a massive 91.2% of the more than 900 people who responded said they would be happy to attend at whatever time necessary.

Reader Caroline Shepherdson said: “Yes absolutely, if someone took the time to be there in the early morning so would I!” while Tracy Notman said: “Definitely, if you can get up in the early hours of the morning to catch a flight to go on holiday (when we can) then you should for the vaccine.”

Michael Brown echoed the thoughts of many when he said: “Sure, as soon as my turn comes round, I'll be there no matter what time of day. “ While Ryan Heath said: “100% yes, not only to protect myself but the vulnerable people around me that might not be able to take it.”

Di Martin offered to hand over money if necessary. She said: “I'd even pay to have it if it means getting back my freedom!!”

Raines Laura said: “Be the closest to a night out anyone would have had in nearly a year!”

Not everyone was keen to attend, with 6.3% of people saying they definitely would not have the jab in the middle of the night. Geoffrey Harrison said: “I’d rather wait until it was offered by my local GP rather than traipse umpteen miles to a vaxing super-centre.”

Mary Knight said: “I would have to say no. I live in a village and the nearest surgery giving the vaccine is at least 5 miles away. I don`t drive and I will not wake my son if it`s during the week. He gets up early enough as it is. I would like to say yes but, for many of us, it`s simply not feasible.”

Several readers raised safety concerns, like Gary Johnson who said: “It really worries me that there has been so little time to see what side effects these vaccines might possibly have and yet everyone seems happy to have it without question.”

And Lauren Wright said she wouldn’t be having the vaccine either. She said: “Nope I’d prefer not to be part of an unpaid clinical trial” while Chris Bradford said: “Wouldn’t want it if they knocked on my door in the middle of the afternoon and offered it me.”

June Mundey offered reassurance for those concerned about having the jab. She said: “My 80 year old diabetic husband has had both the first and second vaccinations, and is fine. Hope this helps people who are worried about having the vaccine.”

Rita Leaman was one of the 1.9% of respondents who had either already had the jab, or were booked in to have the vaccine in the coming days. She said: “At 71, had jab on Saturday. Not 100% about it, but was swayed by awful memories of CFS/ME at 35 after a simple cold. Wouldn’t wish long Covid on anyone.”

However, it was perhaps Derrick Blunden who best summed up the attitude of the vast majority of readers when he said: “If the vaccine staff can take the trouble to work those hours I'm there with a box of cakes!”
