No Limits Martial Arts has been granted planning permission by the borough council to transform the Murphy Vacs shop in Victoria Road into the gym.

Murphy Vacs has sold and repaired vacuum cleaners from the shop for more than 40 years but now the owner is retiring and a new use for the building was needed.

In Scarborough Council’s planning officer’s report, it notes: “The development would take place internally with the wall separating 190 and 192 removed so as to extend the workshop area into the retail unit to create an enlarged training room with a small section of the retail shop remaining to become the reception area.

“There are no external alterations proposed as part of the change of use.

"The martial arts centre would be operational Monday to Friday 9am – 9pm and Saturday 10am – 3pm."

Following a public consultation, four letters of support were sent to the council.

Planning officers have now granted planning permission under delegated powers.
