North Yorkshire Moors Railway launches online auction to help secure attraction's future
A Pullman dining experience is just one of the prozes which can be won a new online auction to help the railway - whose survival is threatened by coronavirus - keep steaming on.
Head of Marketing, Laura Strangeway, said: "We’re so passionate about our railway, its history and heritage, we’re determined to do whatever it takes to secure its future.
"This is why we are giving people the chance to bid on some never before seen prizes.
"If you’re a fan of Channel 5’s popular programme, The Yorkshire Steam Railway: All Aboard, which is filmed here at NYMR, then you’ll know who Piglet and Chris are.
"We’re auctioning off the chance to dine on a Pullman with the TV show’s popular real-life character Piglet, accompany our General Manager Chris on a footplate along the heritage line, or even experience a week’s stay in the Levisham camping coach.
"We’re doing everything we can in a bid to keep our steam railway on track."
Prizes under the virtual hammer include:
* a journey through the North York Moors National Park on a steam locomotive
* a Pullman dining experience for two
* the chance to have a personalised headboard displayed on a daily service train, which can be taken home as a keepsake
* a photography day with award-winning photographer Charlotte Graham
* a priceless tour of the engine sheds with our Head of Traction & Rolling Stock, Paul Middleton (Piglet),
"We’re not ones to rest on our laurels," added Laura.
"Given the current climate, and the emotional and mental toll that coronavirus is having at the moment, we wanted to do something proactive and productive to raise some vital funds to keep us steaming on in the future."
The popular visitor attraction has projected a loss of more than £1m over the forthcoming weeks and is doing everything it can behind the scenes to stand a fighting chance of carrying on - but the cash is vital to keep going.
Anyone that bids and wins can rest assured that 100% of their donation goes directly to helping secure a future for the railway.
