Armed Forces Day in Whitby will not be going ahead this year.

Whitby Town Council made the decision due to the continuation of Covid restrictions.

A small event had been discussed, but it was felt that it would be impractical to proceed.

However, the traditional flag raising will still take place.

The armed forces day flag will be raised at 10am on Monday June 21 and lowered again on Saturday June 26 at 4pm.

Whitby Armed Forces day has raised thousands of pounds for veterans' charities over the years.

"Hopefully next year we can continue with this great work," the event's Facebook page read.
