Parts of German bomber shot down over Whitby sell for £950 at London auction
Several items connected to a German bomber that was shot down over Whitby in February 1940 have sold for £950 at auction.
The parts were sold by Dawsons Auctioneers in London earlier this week.

The Heinkel HE-111 bomber was the first to be downed over English soil in World War Two and crash-landed at Bannial Flatt.
Items up for grabs in the lot included a propeller blade, wireless aerial post, fuselage fragment and the wireless aerial from the aircraft.

The Heinkel had been on an anti-shipping sortie and was downed by Flight Lieutenant Peter Townsend in a Hurricane of No43 Squadron.
Ft Lt Townsend was later romantically involved with Princess Margaret.
Peter Mason, auctioneer and valuer at Dawsons, said: “We were excited to auction several parts of a Heinkel HE-111 bomber that was shot down over Whitby.”
