Planting of the Crosses: Scarborough's 'quiet, poignant and truly unique' act of Remembrance

Scarborough once again came together for the Planting of the Crosses - a quiet, poignant and truly unique act of Remembrance.

It is an occasion that Scarborough conducts with immense pride, dignity and respect, providing a deeply moving opportunity to remember those who gave their lives in the service of our country.

Despite the challenging weather, we were absolutely overwhelmed by the turnout.

Attendance was greater than we have seen for many years, a wonderful testament to the strength of feeling within our community and the importance people continue to place on Remembrance.

The sight of so many people gathering, the planting of the crosses, and the presence of our veterans, serving personnel, cadets and members of the public made for a very special occasion.

The event was made even more memorable by the magnificent parade, led by the Yorkshire Volunteers Band, whose music and presence brought a real sense of occasion and pride to the proceedings.

Our Standards, veterans, serving personnel and cadets together created a wonderful spectacle, conducted with the dignity this occasion deserves.

To everyone who attended, took part, paraded, helped organise or supported today’s event – a heartfelt thank you.

And to the people of Scarborough, thank you for turning out in such numbers, whatever the weather.

Once again, you have demonstrated that Remembrance is very much alive in our town.

We will remember them.
