Police in Scarborough promote "Ask for Angela" safety scheme

Officers from North Yorkshire Police have been working with licensed premises in Scarborough to promote the ‘Ask for Angela’ scheme.

The scheme started in 2016 and is used by bars and other venues to keep people safe when they feel unsafe or are in an uncomfortable situation.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “We all try to keep ourselves safe whilst we are out, but sometimes this may be out of our control, and we may need a safe space.

“You can “Ask for Angela” whilst at the bar to discreetly request help from a member of staff.

“This might be reuniting you with a friend, calling a taxi or just helping you feel safe.

“By creating space from the situation which has made you uncomfortable, it allows you to make a more informed decision as to what path you take next.”
