Preparations underway for Rotary Club of Scarborough Technology Tournament 2026

Under supervised tournament conditions, students collectively work together to solve the previously unseen task.

There are three age levels for team members; Foundation (11-14), Intermediate (15-16) and Advanced (16+), with the degree of complexity of the task being increased at each age level.

The team members have to work closely together in order to solve an interactive technology based task and are required to design, model and build a solution with the materials supplied.

At the same time they have to compile a portfolio explaining how they arrived at the final design.

Stewards are on hand to guide the pupils throughout and offer a helping hand where necessary to ensure everyone gets the most from the experience.

The day culminates in a testing session when each team demonstrates their best solution to the task and is judged against the efforts of the competing teams in their age group.

Students who successfully participate are eligible to apply for a CREST Discovery Award.

Trophies and certificates are presented to the winning teams and all who take part are awarded a Certificate to mark their participation in the event.

This year the winning school will also receive a 3D printer donated by Verderflex, a UK company with links to the Rotary Club.

Throughout the day, the atmosphere is one of intense activity and obvious enjoyment leading to the satisfaction of completing the task.

All costs are paid by the Rotary club and there is no entry fees to school teams other than any potential transport to and from the event.

The Rotary Club of Scarborough guarantees an interesting and fun experience which will test the knowledge, innovation, and problem-solving skills of the participants and their ability to work in a team.

Richard Dean, The President of the Rotary Club of Scarborough said “We are delighted to once again stage the Technology Tournament and are thrilled that many of our local schools have entered teams.

"Past experience shows just how much the children enjoy the challenges both as individuals and in their team working.

“Feedback from educators suggests that the tournament really adds value to their education experience.

“We would like to thank the sponsors, Verdeflex, for their generous support.”

Any schools, colleges or clubs for young people (Scouts, Guides, Cadets etc.) who would like to enter the 2027 Tournament are asked to contact the Rotary Club of Scarborough at [email protected]
