Created by Key Stage Two pupils from Glaisdale Primary School, the eye-catching artwork depicts a steam train and the historic Beggar’s Bridge.
It was unveiled on the morning of Friday, December 5, at Glaisdale Train Station, with the children who created the artwork, and friends and family of Mr Norris in attendance.
Mr Norris was a station adopter who gave a lot of his time to the maintenance of the station facilities and care of the plants around the station.
PTFA member Katherine Sedman, who went into the school to help with the design of the plaque, said: “It was a true joint effort, every child in KS2 was involved in painting the plaque.
“Thanks should also be given to Harrison’s Builders from Glaisdale who donated the wood and also the time to mount the plaque on the station wall.”
Laura Barber, Glaisdale Primary School Teacher in Charge, said: “Glaisdale is such a small community, it was really important to us to support the Esk Valley Railway in what they were doing.
"It was great to find time to create this in such a busy autumn term.
"It is important for our children to understand local history, and to pay tribute to the important people of the village who have done amazing things.”
After the unveiling ceremony, Mr Norris’s widow, Jean, and MP for Scarborough and Whitby Alison Hume were presented with flowers by the children of Glaisdale School.
