RAF Fylingdales near Whitby serves up Christmas cheer for local veterans
RAF Fylingdales personnel celebrated the festive season by recently hosting a Christmas lunch for RAF veterans.
The festive fun was supported by RAF welfare charity the RAF Benevolent Fund, which provided a grant of £500 towards the cost of the event. RAF Fylingdales proudly hosted the lunch at the Officers' Mess – the special event was organised to bring together members of the RAF community, including veterans, spouses, and widows, to celebrate the festive season and honour their service and sacrifices.
This support ensured that all attendees were treated to a delicious meal in a warm and welcoming environment.
The event was also a success thanks to the hard work and enthusiasm of RAF personnel, who volunteered their time to ensure the day ran smoothly.

From serving food and marshalling cars to taking coats and directing guests to the Officers' Mess, their contributions were invaluable.
Wing Commander Toby Steward, Station Commander at RAF Fylingdales, said: “You don’t move on from service – you carry it with you, and so do we.
"It was fantastic to welcome back our veterans, and I’m very grateful to the RAF Benevolent Fund for sponsoring the lunch and helping us look after our RAF Family.”
Irene Greenwood, Welfare Programmes Manager at the RAF Benevolent Fund, added: “Christmas can be a challenging period for some members of the RAF Family, especially those facing loneliness or social isolation.

"That’s why we’re so pleased to have supported RAF Fylingdale’s Christmas lunch for veterans.
"Even a small gesture like this can reassure them that they’re remembered and remain an important part of the wider RAF family.”
The RAF Benevolent Fund provides financial, emotional, and practical assistance to serving and retired RAF personnel and their families.
This includes grants to help with financial difficulty, mental health support, Airplay youth clubs, and more.
