The Scarborough ‘For the Love of Scrubs’ team has been creating vital outfits for NHS workers.

The group, which is making scrubs for local hospitals, GPs, care homes and Saint Catherine’s, has been beavering away to make almost 1,400 sets of scrubs.

The initial “For the Love of Scrubs” idea was started by Ashleigh Linsdell, an A&E nurse from Boston in Lincolnshire with a side-line in sewing, who wanted to make scrubs for her department.

Charlotte Hill, who began the Scarborough area group said: “When Ashleigh started the national For the Love of Scrubs group no one realised the impact her initiative would have and how quickly the scrubs making movement would grow.

“Within days there were thousands of scrubs makers across the country and local groups like ours had started.”

Rotary Club member Udupa Venkatesh said: “In addition to collecting material the club’s Virgin Money Giving website has raised almost £600 to buy much-needed material, together with other items needed in the community.

“The NHS is facing its biggest ever challenge.

“Some hospital and care staff, many of whom do not usually work in scrubs or who have come out of retirement to help the fight, are required to change into scrubs several times a day to reduce the risk of spreading Covid-19.”
