Scarborough Cavaliers Rotary Club closes after almost half a century of service
After 47 years of serving the local community and supporting international projects, the Scarborough Cavaliers Rotary Club has made the difficult decision to close.
Since 1978, members have worked alongside countless volunteers, charities, businesses and community organisations to make a real difference, both locally and around the world.

A statement issued by the club said ‘members give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported their work.’
Earlier this year, the Cavaliers played a key part in a Fundraising Fair, delivered with Community First Yorkshire and CaVCA.

The event brought charities together to help make it a little easier for community organisations to find and apply for grant funding - this valuable work may continue into the future.
Over nearly five decades, the Cavaliers organised and supported a wide variety of community and charitable activities, including the annual Dragon Boat Races, which ran for around a decade, giving teams a fantastic day out while raising more than £15,000 each year for their chosen charities.
The Community Fair in Scarborough's pedestrian precinct, gave local charities the opportunity to showcase their work, recruit supporters and raise valuable funds, while members also worked with CAMRA and other organisations to run popular fundraising tombolas, raffles and the like for good causes.
Internationally, the club supported clean water projects in Ghana, and contributed to Rotary's worldwide campaign to eradicate polio – one of the world's greatest public health success stories
A spokesperson for hte club said: “Above all, Scarborough Cavaliers Rotary Club has always been about people – members past and present who have given their time, talents and friendship in the service of others. “Members give a big THANKS to everyone who has been part of the journey: fellow volunteers, local businesses, community groups, partner organisations and the many charities with whom it has been a privilege to work.
“Although this chapter has ended, the friendships made, the projects completed and the positive impact created will remain a lasting local legacy.”
The web site is now closed, however the email [email protected] will remain active during July to answer queries or to tie up any loose ends.
Rotary continues to support the community with clubs in Scarborough, Pickering and Whitby.
