Scarborough charity calls on runners to join Team Mencap for Yorkshire Coast 10K
Scarborough and District Mencap is encouraging local runners to sign up for this year’s Yorkshire Coast 10K and help raise vital funds for its ambitious Big Build campaign.
The Yorkshire Coast 10K, which takes place in Scarborough on Sunday October 11, is expected to attract runners from across the region. Almost half of the 2,500 places are already reserved,

The charity is inviting supporters of all ages and abilities to take part and run on behalf of Team Mencap.
Funds raised through sponsorship will support the charity’s Big Build project, which aims to create a new purpose-built centre and future accessible housing for people with learning disabilities at its Brookleigh site on Valley Road.

Kim Turton, Care Coordinator at Scarborough and District Mencap, said: “Every runner who chooses to support Mencap will be helping us in two important ways – by raising awareness of our charity and the services we provide, and by raising vital funds for our Big Build campaign”.
The Big Build project represents the next chapter for Scarborough and District Mencap. The existing building, which has served the charity since 1978, no longer meets the growing needs of the people it supports, particularly those with mobility needs and more complex disabilities.
The Mencap staff team will also be represented on the day, with two members planning to take part and others supporting runners at the event in backing the Big Build campaign.
