Scarborough Borough Council is hosting Armed Forces Day Virtual Event 2020 (AFDVE 2020) on June 27 instead of the Armed Forces Day National Event it would have been hosting on the same weekend if the coronavirus pandemic had not occurred.

AFDVE 2020 will be hosted online here - the website will be live from Monday June 22.

The online content, which will be added to the website in the lead-up to June 27, will shine a spotlight on local and national military veterans, and serving personnel, honouring their unstinting commitment, service and sacrifice.

Visitors to the website will be able to view military related videos and personal stories, enjoy images and personal recollections from previous Armed Forces Day events, take part in themed children’s activities and a children’s competition.

Cllr Tony Randerson, Scarborough Council cabinet member with responsibility for the delivery of the Armed Forces Day National Event, which has been postponed until June 2021, said: “The virtual celebration will be a chance for us, our event partners and all our supporters to celebrate and honour our Armed Forces in a way we never have before.

“We know it won’t be anywhere close to a replacement for the physical event, but we really hope it will go some way to filling the gap and will bring some of the enjoyment of Armed Forces Day into people’s homes.”

Updates about the event and details of the children’s competition will be added here and will also be posted on the Scarborough Armed Forces Day Facebook page.
