Shaun Dolan, 34, won a total of £45,618.86 on his eight-fold football accumulator.

“I’ve gone through all kinds of emotions, I can’t even explain it,” said Shaun, who works at McCain.

“I do a big, daft bet every week, just a couple of quid to win big and luckily this time it has come in and paid off.

“It still doesn’t feel real to be honest.”

Shaun’s bet featured eight teams to win both halves of their matches over the weekend, with the wager hinging on Barcelona’s La Liga match against Osasuna which kicked off at 8pm on Saturday.

The tension was high for Shaun as Barcelona were 1-0 up at half-time, but he then had to wait until the 83rd minute of the match for the victors to score a second and hold out for the 2-0 win.

Shaun added: “I didn’t watch the Barcelona match, I just had the commentary on my phone and all my mates were sending me messages and WhatsApp groups were going mad and my phone hasn’t stopped since.”

The win has been a welcome boost for Shaun after a testing few years and he’s already planned how to spend his winnings.

He added: “I’m over the moon, it’s a massive game changer for me.

“It is literally just what I needed after a tough couple of years.

“I’ll definitely be buying a new car, clearing some debts and putting a deposit down on a house - the main thing is a bit of security for me and my daughter.”
