Scarborough man with the lucky streak lands £11,500 Saint Catherine's lottery win

Steve Flint, 74, has been playing the lottery since it started in 1998 – and this is his second memorable win.

He explained: “I had a big win a few years ago of £2,000 and spent it all on Premium Bonds for my kids and grandkids, who then went on to have some smaller wins themselves – so the luck was passed on!”

On winning the rollover, he said: “I was astounded really.

"It took a while to sink in. I think I am quite a lucky person – if I go to a tombola I always come away with a few prizes!”

Steve (pictured with his wife Jackie) said he had thought about doing the National Lottery, but decided that the better one to play was the hospice lottery, as it brings such a benefit to the local community.

He added: “The work that Saint Catherine’s does is unbelievable.

"We are so lucky to have a facility like that on our doorstep.”

Steve is so supportive of the work of Saint Catherine’s that he has decided to donate 20% of his winnings back to the hospice, to be put towards caring for patients and their loved ones.

He is planning to share the rest of the winnings with his family.

How does Saint Catherine’s lottery work?

It costs just £2 per play and there are cash prizes to be won each week of £1,500, £200, £50, £25 x 2 and £10 x 10.

Plus there is a rollover each week of £500, which can reach a maximum of £20,000.

Proceeds from the lottery go towards patient care, so it is a great way to give regular support to Saint Catherine’s.
