Scarborough MP Alison Hume visits rehab centre to learn about addiction recovery
MP for Scarborough and Whitby, Alison Hume, has visited Ark House Rehab to get an insight into addiction recovery, and to learn how the centre is forging links with the local community.
Ark House Rehab, is a fully residential 12-Step rehabilitation centre which opened its doors more than 34 years ago.

Since then, the centre has helped thousands of people with their addiction issues and seen them start their recovery journey.
The private residential rehab provides a safe, structured environment with 24/7 support, keyworkers, and a team who understand recovery first-hand.

Families are supported through free workshops and the Saturday Family Support Group, ensuring loved ones are part of the healing journey. Recovery doesn’t stop at discharge.
Ark House offers lifelong free aftercare, including weekly sessions, online support groups, and 12-Step fellowship connections worldwide.
During her visit, Ms Hume toured the facilities, and spoke to staff and residents about how Ark House residential rehab works.
She also spent time listening to some of the current residents, who explained how they came to be at Ark House, and what their hopes were for the future.

Ms Hume said she is keen to help break the stigma of addiction, and plans to return to the centre soon to discuss Ark House’s idea for third tier housing, one of many the centre is currently working on.
Ms Hume also saw where the Ark House podcast IN RECOVERY is recorded, and was impressed with the fact that after just one series it is already in the top 20 per cent of podcasts in the world.
Ark House are producing IN RECOVERY to be a companion guide to those in recovery or for people who are keen to know more about the stories and science behind addiction.
Richard Chapman, Finance Director of Ark House and host of IN RECOVERY said: "We were thrilled to welcome Alison to Ark House.

"We have some exciting things in the pipeline as we continually endeavour to help people on their recovery journeys in as many ways as we can.
“Having the interest and support of Alison is hugely important to us"
