Scarborough residents win big on Postcode Lottery each winning £30,000

The Scarborough postcode YO11 2XD was announced as a winner on Tuesday May 25 landing eight lucky players with a cheque for £30,000 each.

Hide AdOne couple, Jayne and Peter Robinson found out how much they’d won on a video call with lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson, cheering in delight after seeing the £30,000 cheque.
Jayne said: “Woo, wow! Antarctica here we come!”
Jayne, 61, has recently retired after a career as a nurse and is now looking to enjoy an adventure-filled retirement.
She said: “We’re keen to have adventure when we travel and we like it hot and we also like cold, very cold.”

Hide AdPeter added: “Antarctica is something we’ve thinking about for a while but being very expensive, we didn’t know if we could afford it right now, but now we can!”
Peter, a retired police officer, hopes to use some of the winnings to tick off one special trip from his bucket list.
He said: “I want to do the trek to Mount Everest base camp.”

Hide AdThe mum-of-two started playing the lottery after her cousin in Sheffield won £30,000 in 2019.
Jayne said: “My cousin won a £30,000 prize and that made us think we never have a go on any lotteries, and we wanted to help charities too.”
Lisa Al-Bizri, 40, has also won £30k and was together with her husband Hish Al-Bizri when the lottery broke the news.

Hide AdLisa gasped and said: “Oh, oh my God, I can’t believe that! Oh my God, that is amazing, absolutely amazing; you’ve made our year.”
Hish added: “It’s hard to compute, that’s a life-changing amount of money. Wow! My face is hurting from smiling.”
The couple plan to treat their family to a staycation this summer to celebrate all of the events they’ve missed after being apart.

Hide AdLisa said: “We haven’t really seen much of our family this year and we’ve all missed milestone celebrations and birthdays so we said it would be nice to all get together and have a little staycation.”
Lisa recently celebrated her 40th birthday and they also plan to take a trip to the Yorkshire Dales accompanied by their beloved pets to celebrate the win.
Hish said: “We’ll take our three dogs away; we’re massive dog lovers and we take them wherever we go.”

Hide AdLisa laughed and said: “We’ll treat them to a little doggy holiday.”
The couple were thrilled to hear that seven other people had won £30k on the street.
Lisa said: “We know loads of our neighbours and they are so lovely. It’s going to lift everyone’s spirits and it’ll be great to speak to other neighbours who’ve won.”

Hide AdOne such neighbour was Terry Porter, 66, who, upon seeing the prize sum, said: “Oh wow! Oh that’s fantastic! I can’t believe it. I was obviously hoping for that, but didn’t believe it was going to happen, that is amazing.”
The grandad-of-four is a local joiner and the cash windfall means that he’ll be able retire earlier.
He said: “I’ve just semi-retired and this will help me boost my retirement; it’ll mean I don’t have to work so hard to keep money ticking over."

Hide AdTerry’s first thoughts turned to his family and he wants to treat his grandchildren with the winnings.
He said: “We want to look after the grandkids; I’ve got two older granddaughters, Emily and Lucy and two younger grandchildren, Joshua and Freya.”
Terry and his wife Linda intend to save some of the money for the future.

Hide AdHe said: “It’s going to be life changing for us, I know it’s not millions and things like that but an amount like that would take me so long to earn.”
The other five winners chose to remain anonymous, but their prizes will be transferred into their bank accounts.
