Scarborough vicar Revd Canon Mike Cansdale shares Easter message

Revd Canon Mike Cansdale, Vicar of St Mark’s and St Luke’s and Area Dean of Scarborough, shares his Easter message for the people of Scarborough

As our schools and colleges break for the Easter holiday and the tourists start making a return to Scarborough, churches across the town are preparing for our biggest celebration of the Christian year.

Christmas brings the good news of God becoming one of us in Jesus and the Bible then tells of his life and teaching.

Easter brings it all together and shows how God wants to make a difference to our everyday lives. It’s not really about bunnies and eggs but even festive foods like hot cross buns and Easter eggs can point us to the meaning of Easter.

This final week of Jesus’ life is a roller coaster ride of emotion with a real plot twist!

Holy Week is a profound invitation to walk with Jesus the way of the cross.

From Palm Sunday praises to the silence of the tomb; from the sadness of the Last Supper to the joy of Resurrection Sunday, this is a time to rest in God’s immense love, knowing He walks alongside us in every struggle and offers hope.

Death is not the end, and we’re invited to experience God’s new life.

There is great hope in knowing that we are loved deeply by God himself, and that he does not leave us to cope alone.

Yet it’s bigger that just me and my little life.

Easter brings the good news about God’s love for our world – this beautiful, amazing yet fragile and troubled world. All things will be renewed in Jesus.

Look out on Good Friday morning as ‘Churches Together’ carry the cross from Westborough to the Castle, stopping on the way to tell what is so ‘good’ about the day Jesus died.

Or if you’re an early bird, join us on Easter Sunday, at North Bay at 6:15am for a sunrise service near the Chalet Café.

Or just find out what your local church is doing this Easter and go along to find out more. I’m sure you’ll be warmly welcomed!
