Energetic 81-year-old Mick Thompson set himself the task of running 500 miles over the last 50 days of winter in aid of Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Mind.

The Scarborough Athletic Club stalwart was joined on his last leg by another of the club’s members, Melanie Padgham, who applauded Mick’s achievement.

“This was a fantastic effort by Mick - a great way to turn our back on the winter and look forward to spring and summer, hopefully without Covid-19,” she said.

“As everyone in Scarborough Athletic Club knows, Mick is an absolute legend and this challenge is the latest in some amazing feats he has achieved over the years.

“We are all very proud of what he does – he’s amazing!”

Mick has collected over £500 for Mind, a charity he chose to recognise his appreciation for its work locally helping improve people’s mental health.

The pensioner ended his challenge with a well-earned cuppa from The Hideout cafe on Columbus Ravine, Scarborough.
