The Rainbow Centre on Castle Road issued the urgent plea for help on Facebook this morning saying:

"The number of children needing gifts this Christmas is immense. We have plenty of stocking fillers, but If anyone is able to donate a larger present (budget £20-£30) in the next couple of days it would make an incredible difference.

"They can be dropped off at the Rainbow Centre white doors between 9 and 2 Monday to Friday.

"We particularly need gifts for the following ages:

Girls age 0-2 years

Boys and Girls aged 9-11

Boys and Girls aged 12-14"

Ali Harvey, client support and deputy manager, said: “It’s been so busy, there is such need and great demand at the moment. People are really struggling. They’ve lost their jobs. There are families coming in that we don’t normally see.

“People come to us with nothing, these are very testing times. Our heart for this Christmas is to bring a lift.”
