Scarborough's Ship Inn collecting presents to help victims of domestic abuse this Christmas

The Ship Inn on Falsgrave Road is collecting toys, clothing and toiletries to ensure that those fleeing domestic abuse will have something to brighten their Christmas this year.

The idea is the brainchild of landlords Tammy Goldstone and Ian Smith, who first ran the scheme at their other pub, The Whitby Way, during lockdown.

Mrs Goldstone said: “We thought let’s see if we can make a difference, and it just took off.

"That box of soap, bottle of Dove or little doll can make such a difference, a lot of these women leave with nothing and will have no gifts this Christmas.

"We’re collecting everything from nappies and towels to toys and hats, even those unopened presents people didn’t get chance to use from last year.”

Those who wish to donate can take items to The Ship Inn or The Whitby Way between now and Tuesday December 20, after which they will be delivered to domestic abuse charity IDAS for distribution to those in need.
