‘Secret Room’ at Scarborough’s Rainbow Centre will transform ‘Home’ space
Work is underway at the Rainbow Centre to transform a hidden room into a welcoming space.
The hidden room, once part of the homeless day centre, was sealed off many years ago, prior to the building being divided.

Work is now underway to open up the secret room to transform “Home” into a safer, more welcoming place for everyone who depends on it.
James Howard, from the Rainbow Centre said: “’Home’, our daytime space for people experiencing homelessness, is always busy, with 30–40 visitors coming in each day for warmth, food and a bit of comfort.

“After a chat with Sharon from Castle7 Construction, she immediately offered to help.
“She gathered a brilliant team of skilled people and the wall was taken down.
“There’s still work to do to get the space looking its best, but the newly expanded “Home” is going to be fantastic.
“We truly can’t thank those who have helped enough. This is work we could never have afforded ourselves, and you’ve genuinely made a wish come true.”

The Rainbow Centre has thanked all of those involved in the project including;
- Sharon, Daz & Alex at Castle7 Construction for pulling all of this together.
- Nigel at NDL Electrical Limited for letting Jamie come and move the plug sockets from the old wall to the new one (in conduit).
- Tony at Neat Flooring Ltd for kindly offering to fit a carpet in the newly opened space.
- James from MKM Building Supplies for providing materials to help make it all possible.
- Jonny & Matty for their plumbing skills.
- Neat Flooring Ltd for kindly fitting a brand new carpet — it’s made such a difference already.
Mr Howard continued: “An equally big thank you to our homeless clients, who rolled up their sleeves and helped paint the room.
“Your hard work, pride and teamwork are what make this place so special.”
