Sewerby pub's Bonfire Night fundraiser boosts Marie Curie and Ashleigh Ellerton fund

Bridlington’s Marie Curie Fundraising group attended the event while collecting donations from spectators.

A grand total of £1,066 was given to Marie Curie, helping them to offer vital care support to those living with a terminal illness and their families.

Amelia Forrest, Marie Curie Community Fundraiser, said: “We’re very grateful for the support from the Ship Inn, and our volunteers that give up their time to help us to make sure that more dying people get the care and support they need at the end of their lives.

“The money raised will enable the nurses to provide over 50 hours of nursing care.”

The spectacular event was held at the Sewerby pub grounds, with jacket potatoes, pizza and Chinese street food to choose from.

The blazing bonfire was lit at 6.30pm and was followed by a beautiful firework display.

Charlie Kilburn, landlord of the Ship Inn, said: “It is great to do something that the local community can enjoy while raising money for charity and we look forward to the bonfire every year.

“It was a great success with loads of people attending.

"Thank you to all who made it possible and gave generously.”
