The Festival Orchestra is giving its annual summer concert in St Hilda's Anglican Church on Whitby West Cliff, on Saturday June 22.

This year's programme is called Simply Strings, and is just for the strings section of the orchestra and brings four favourites from the classical strings repertoire.

As ever, the orchestra will be conducted by Steve Maltby and led by Tony Mason.

The evening opens with Holst's St Paul's Suite, written for his own girls orchestra when he was a teacher in London.

Dvorak wrote Serenade for Strings in 1876 and it is as fresh today as the day it was written.

After the interval the orchestra resumes with Vaughan Williams beautiful Five Variants of Dives and Lazarus before the highlight of the evening, Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings.

Tickets cost £10 and can be purchased on the door, and refreshments will be served at the interval.

The concert starts at 7pm.
