The call came at the request of a local councillor and the team were paged by Humber Coastguard Operations Centre to attend.

A post on Staithes Coastguard Facebook page read:

“The team responded to ensure public safety and safety of residents and motorists.

“As Cleveland Fire Brigade UK were busy pumping water from properties we performed the evacuation of some residents.

“The team remained on scene for five hours until water levels receded to a safe level.

“Also in attendance were the Environment Agency, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council members, a Coastguard Senior Coastal Operations Officer and team members from Hartlepool Coastguard Rescue Team who provided us with cover and transported the area flood response kit to us.
