Discover how 18th Century Europeans imagined meeting giants and mythical beings, while indigenous peoples across the Pacific wondered if strange visitors were gods or mortals.

The exhibition brings to life these remarkable first encounters from North America's North West Coast to Aotearoa/New Zealand, revealing how they shaped our understanding of the world.

Set in the Grade I listed building on Grape Lane where Cook himself learned his trade, the museum celebrates the legacy of a Yorkshire hero whose voyages changed history.

After the talk, enjoy a museum tour and stay for a drink afterwards.
