Stunning photos of the Scarborough double rainbow which lit up the North Bay sky

Andy Taylor, who spotted the unusual event, said: "It’s probably the most spectacular rainbow I’ve seen in 25 years!"

The photos perfectly frame Scarborough Castle jutting out on the headland beneath an array of colour.

The Met Office say double rainbows are formed when sunlight is reflected twice within a raindrop with the violet light that reaches the observers eye coming from the higher raindrops and the red light from lower raindrops.
