The sky's the limit for Scarborough man's skydiving fundraiser

Tony's wife, Helen, was diagnosed with stage 3B breast cancer three and a half years ago. Since her diagnosis Helen has been treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, she has had four operations and a full mastectomy.

Tony said: "Helen's prognosis is not so good, but despite this she continues to live her life to the fullest and always has a positive attitude and has even resumed work on her PHD."

Helen is well known in the area, she was a teacher at Springhead School in Scarborough for eight years and then went on to be Deputy Head at Malton School until her illness meant she could not continue working.

The couple made the decision to start fund raising after Helen recently lost a friend to the disease, he said: "Helen recently lost her good friend Beth Brazier to this awful disease so we decided it was time to act and raise some money for a much needed cause.

"I chose to do a skydive purely because of the ridiculousness of it."

Tony and Helen, have a son William,13. Tony works at Mitie Facilities Management, and has a lot of support from his colleagues, he said: "Thankfully I found some colleagues who were willing to help, Tim Woodcock and Tim's daughter Jess have agreed to do the skydive with me, plus more to be confirmed.

"It is due to take place at Skydive GB near Bridlington on March 21, we are hopeful it will go ahead, but it may get put back due to Covid.

"The jump is completely self funded so all donations will go to charity.

"We have had a great start and already raised just over £1000."
